Bowen Technique, a relatively new therapy to the UK, is very gentle soft tissue remedial therapy that helps to re-align and balance the body.
A typical Bowen treatment will take 45 minutes to one hour. The moves themselves are sets of subtle but dynamic rolling moves made by thumbs and fingers, over muscles and soft tissue, at specific points on the body.
The treatment includes short breaks between sets of moves, allowing the body and nervous system to absorb the effect of the moves straight away and initiate the healing process. Many people find the treatment so relaxing they actually fall asleep.
Often only three or four treatments are required to achieve a positive result, even with chronic pain. Many have top-ups to keep the body at optimum levels.
It’s not only muscular-skeletal issues that can be addressed. Whilst Bowen excels in this area, particularly for back pain, frozen shoulder, stiff neck and knee problems, to name but a few, Bowen can also provide relief from such conditions as IBS, tinnitus, headaches, fertility issues, asthma and hay fever.
Being such a gentle therapy means it is very suitable for use on babies and children. Colic, bed-wetting and ADHD are some of the childhood conditions that have been improved by the application of Bowen. In contrast, more robust moves can be used on athletes with a sports injury.
